Unlike employer-specific permits, this visa allows you to explore various roles, industries, and provinces freely.

- Skilled professionals
- Spouses of international students
- Recent graduates (PGWP holders).
A simplified extension path has also been introduced for Post-Graduation Work Permit holders.
📍Eligibility criteria:
The Open Work Permit is available to various categories, including:
- Spouses/common-law partners of skilled workers or international students
- Participants in the International Experience Canada (IEC) program
- Inland spousal sponsorship applicants (permanent residency track)
- Vulnerable workers facing abuse or exploitation
- PGWP holders (with more flexibility introduced in 2025)
📍Application Process
》Step 1: Prepare Your Documents
You’ll need the following:
- Valid passport (must cover the entire permit duration)
- Previous Canadian visas (if applicable)
- Proof of relationship (for spouses)
- Recent passport-sized photo
》Step 2: Submit Your Application Online
- Create an account on the IRCC portal
- Complete the appropriate form:
- IMM 5710 (if applying from inside Canada)
- IMM 1295 (if applying from outside Canada)
- Upload all required documents
- Pay the required fees
》Step 3: Biometrics & Processing
- Biometrics are required for most applicants (CAD 85)
- Processing time: 6–10 weeks (varies by country)
- You may be called for an interview
